#1 or #2 plastic? Check the number, not just the color.
Look on the bottom or side for the resin identification number. A 1 means PET or PETE; a 2 means HDPE. The number identifies the material, not a guarantee of local recyclability.
#1: PET or PETE
Water and soda bottles commonly use PET. It is often clear but can also be colored. A clear container is not automatically #1: check the stamped number.
#2: HDPE
Milk jugs, detergent bottles, and some shampoo bottles commonly use HDPE. It can be translucent, natural, or colored. Color alone cannot identify #2 plastic.
Prepare it for pickup
Empty and rinse containers, then let them drain. Accepted shapes and caps depend on the recycling program. Ask about unusual items and chemical containers before including them. Unsure? Text 501-356-5549 before pickup.
